Over 75 years working with light. Troll came into being with the discovery of track for electrical apparatus. Thanks to the success achieved by the invention of the electrified track, the company was dynamized by strong growth. Following on from successful later innovation, a solid know-how in the art of lighting and well-established international prestige, Troll is entering a phase of expansion which is making it a leader in the field of technical lighting today.
1929-1960
The history of the name Troll starts in 1929, when Julio Feliu de la Peña started a family business in Barcelona, under his own name, J. Feliu de al Peña, making and selling decorative lighting products for the interior.
1960-1970
The next generation took over in 1960, when Miquel Tey became managing director of he company, which changed direction.
The Troll brand was launched with the invention of the electric track (1961). This development was a great contribution to the lighting market. From then on, J. Feliu de la Peña, stopped making decorative lighting and launched the Troll brand as a new concept in the design and technical lighting of interiors.
Inventing the Track (1961))
In 1958, Federico Schönhöfer and Manuel Clausells developed the first track with continuous tapping contact for electrical apparatus (Registered patent 2/12/61).
The invention was patented by Nordart Industria S.A., who gave exclusive distribution rights to J. Feliu de la Peña under the name Troll. The results were so good that the two companies decided to merge.
The Troll track received the prestigious Delta de Plata (ADI FAD) award in 1962.
Therefore, the Troll brand came about with the discovery of the electrified track.
1980
The 1980s were a period of great growth for Troll, due to the creation of a design centre and distribution policies, thus becoming a leader in the market in Spain and gaining great international prestige in industrial design.
First subsidiary opened abroad, Troll France (1988)
1990
The rapid progress in the quality of the products was endorsed in 1991, when three IF (Industrie Forum Design Hannover) awards were won, prestigious prized given for merit in innovation in industrial design.
Subsidiaries opened in Germany (1993), Italy (1995), Mexico (1996).
The unbreakable rule of innovation was once again rewarded in 1997 with the prestigious IF award (Industrie Forum Design Hannover), with the special distinction of Best in Category.
In 1999, Troll bought NIPSA and FLUDESA, companies that specialize in fluorescence.
2000-2005
The path followed by J. Feliu de la Peña is rewarded by the PIMES 2000 (PIMEC SEFES) prize, which values the best business initiatives.
In 2001, the group acquired Tronics 2000, a manufacturer of electronic equipment and systems in the lighting sector, and Metalarte, a company specializing in the development and manufacture of decorative lighting products.
Subsidiary opened in Portugal (2002).
In 2005, collaboration agreements were signed with the architect, Jean Nouvel, and the designer, Antoni Arola. Their experience and contribution strengthens Troll's approach to the culture of light.
2006-2008
The Customlight project receives the Design Plus award (German Design Council) at the Light+Building Fair (2006).
In 2006, a collaboration agreement was signed in Egypt with one of the leading groups in the lighting sector to create a mixed company, SELCO, to manufacture and sell products under the Troll name.
Subsidiary opened in Holland (2007).
In 2007, Troll presents a new exterior lighting division.
Also in 2007, the group acquires Sagelux, a Spanish manufacturer and distributor of emergency lighting products.
Riddle by Jean Nouvel wins the Design Plus award at another Light+Building Fair (2008).
