Flying surface

“The most important thing is the nature of the item, its essence.” Jean Nouvel

Flying Surface is a project that arose as a result of the design collaboration between Jean Nouvel and Troll, a new project that basically deals with the essence of light. Made from a stretched fabric which becomes a floating surface radiating light when lit. When there is no light, it is a white fabric, as abstract as an artist's canvas waiting for the paint.

Flying Surface is a concept built upon the fragility of light. It is a simple plane of light which, when placed on a wall or ceiling, becomes an indeterminate plane. They can be placed wherever you choose; as they are abstract and highly flexible, and they can be used for a myriad of purposes. They are suitable for offices, public or private areas, the home… providing the space with a unique character. Flying Surface is more than a luminaire, it is a luminous object, a study on the essence of light.
