City of Justice

The prestigious architect David Chipperfield in association with the Barcelona b720 Architects , has designed the new City of Justice (or Law Courts) in Barcelona, one of the biggest urban projects of the city. Eight interconnected but independent buildings have been designed over a surface distance of 330,000 square metres. The project aims to unite all services related to the administration of Law and Justice in a single space.

Troll was chosen to develop the luminaires to achieve the lighting concept that Artec had programmed for the different areas characterised by flexibility, functionality and space modulation. That’s why high light levels and uniformity were prerequisite in order to achieve maximum flexibility and control of glare. The lighting power system was based on grid-like patterns and “customised” luminaires were designed which then incorporated perfectly into the false ceiling. This proved to be fundamental in the development of optical systems.
